What a great last trip with Via Maggio 4 (and Audra!).

On Saturday of this weekend, all of my roommates and I took a day trip to Cinque Terre, the Italian Riviera.  It was beautiful and I liked it even more than Sorrento and Capri.  The water was so blue and I could have honestly stayed there forever.  Enjoy these photos and check out the next blog entry for more.  Sorry if there’s some repetition- I just love so many of the photos I took!

On Tuesday, Stef and I took the train to Pisa to take the typical tourist pictures with the leaning tower.  There wasn’t much else to see while we were there, so we just went for a quick visit.  After we got back to Florence that night, Stef, Katie, Camille and I went to apertivo at a local cafe.  You buy a drink for 5 Euros and then you can eat as much as you want from a buffet of delicious Italian food.  It was great!

Maggio!

Well, I’m approaching the end of my trip abroad and I’m not sure how I feel about it!  I miss home and can’t wait to see friends and family, but I have started to feel at home here in Florence- it’s going to be difficult to leave.  My roommates and I are making lists of all of the things we still need to do and I feel like it’s going to be impossible to get through it all.  I have made such good friends here and it’s going to be really hard to say goodbye, especially since we all live so far from each other.  That’s why we’re going to make the most of the next few weeks!

As many of you have heard, I will be traveling to Africa for two weeks before I head home to Philadelphia.  I was invited to join a research trip with my mentor from Senior Projects in high school, Dr. Kathleen Ryan (a scholar at the UPenn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology).  I have worked with Dr. Ryan on and off since graduating and was so excited to receive the invitation to participate in this trip.  I will be giving more details regarding the itinerary in another blog entry, but I just wanted to update everyone on my plans.  I will be traveling to Kenya from Florence, staying in Africa for approximately two weeks, flying back to Florence and then catching a flight home to the United States.  I am currently wrapping up my classes and preparing for departure! I am so excited that I have had such a great experience here and that my trip will continue a little longer than originally expected.  I will be receiving a blog URL from the group I am traveling with and we will each be updating our site.  When I receive that link, I will post it here so that you can all see what we are doing in Kenya.

I don’t know how many more blog entries I will be posting here seeing as I’m going to be so busy in the next 12 days, but keep checking back!

The last day we spent in Germany, we visited Dachau, the first concentration camp opened in Germany during WWII.  It was a very meaningful experience and as sad as seeing the camp was, I’m really glad I went and learned more about that time in history.  I didn’t take pictures at the camp, but these are some beautiful shots from our bus ride home.

These are some pictures from Frankie’s Bike Tour.  I would recommend it to anyone who visits Munich.  It was so much fun!

The first stop on our trip to Munich, Germany for Spring Fest was Neuschwanstein Castle.    It was used as the model for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and was originally built by Ludwig II.  The outside had scaffolding along one side, but the interior was beautiful.  We weren’t allowed to take photos, but I snuck one while we were in the entryway.  I think the most beautiful thing about this place was the surrounding town.  The countryside and mountains were amazing!

Last pictures from Capri!

It was so beautiful in Capri, despite the weather.  It is one of my favorite places I have visited in Europe since I started studying in Italy!  I definitely want to go back when it’s not off and on “monsooning”.

After having a three course meal and limoncello tasting at our hotel in Sorrento the night before, we headed to the harbor to take a ferry ride to the island of Capri.
